Weekly Update// Pastor Chris
Dear Asbury Family,
It’s good to be back! For the last two weeks, I was on a “staycation,” where instead of traveling and going somewhere, I stayed in town. During my time off, I rested, read, completed a few projects around the house, visited Wekiwa Springs State Park with the family, and watched the new Jurassic World movie with Amanda (the first movie we watched in theaters since January of 2020). We also had the chance to visit with Amanda’s dad, who lives in Texas but was vacationing in Orlando with his family. While I’m certainly thankful for the time away, I missed being with you all and couldn’t be happier to be back.
This Sunday in worship (July 17) we start a new series of messages called “Behind the Veil.” In this six-part series, we’ll be exploring the stories of various women in the Old Testament. Even though these faith-filled women lived in a patriarchal culture that relegated women to hidden roles, they found creative ways to subvert that culture and do remarkable things for God. The character with whom we’re going to start is Miriam, who was Moses’ big sister. The title of the sermon is “Miriam: The Original Big Sister,” and the Scripture passage is Exodus 2:1-10 and 15:20-21. I hope you’ll make plans to join us for Sunday worship at 9:30am (contemporary/celebration) or 11am (traditional) as we kick off this new series. As a reminder, you can worship in person or online.
Vacation Bible School (VBS) starts next week! Can you believe it? We have dozens and dozens of kids signed up, not to mention a host of adult volunteers and helpers. Please pray that our kids will have a profound experience of God’s love this year at VBS.
Also, please continue praying for our youth as they serve this week with three other church youth groups in Brevard County. I am sure these students will have great stories to share with us when they return.
I am so proud to be one of the pastors of this church. I look forward to seeing you on Sunday.
Blessings,
Chris
